A short holiday, the first for this year. We stayed at York Hotel. Satisfactory room, though will not stay there again. The walk to shops is a wee bit much. Especially when Zarif is all too sleepy and cranky!

Zarif turned 2 on Saturday 20th August 2005. We hosted a smaller crowd this year (compared to last year's party). But seeing as the kiddies are all about a few months older or younger than the next kid, they were all at that stage where the mummies and daddies were definitely kept more mobile (read: going after their respective buas toddlers!) than was the case the previous year. Anyhow... was a good turnout, and I think we had fun ... The penat post-party is another story though!
I chose 'colours' to be the theme for the party. This was followed through in the invitation cards and the party favour bags. There were also special party packs for the "most colourful boy", "most colourful girl", "most colourful dad", "most colourful mum" and extra special packs for Zarif's grandparents on both sides. As u can probably imagine, it was the birthday boy's mummy who got exctied about this, the whole preparation n theme of the party itself.
It's 4 months to Z's 3rd birthday now. Hmm... will there be a party for him this year? If so, what theme should it be? Any suggestions...?

A fairly short holiday. Just 4 nights in Sydney. But loved it! Was my first time to Sydney (my family's last visit there, i had missed as i was still studying in London at the time).
Had always wanted to go to Sydney and thanks to the generosity of my dearest dad, he bought us a quick holiday there. Found the city very easy to move around in, child-friendly and weather was great too. In between shopping time, we brought Zarif to the Sydney Aquarium... he absolutely loved it! Another day was spent at The Rocks. Lovely area worth spending your afternoon there.
To sum up, would be nice to visit again, but maybe not just yet. Next trip to Australia (whenever that'll be), I'd like to go to Brisbane and Gold Coast (also while Lyn and family are still there kan?).

Zarif's first long flight. 13 hours to Heathrow. Challenging to say the least!
Anyway... spent just over a week in London. Met up with my sister and her family. Zarif had a good time playing with his Abang Kam. I had a good time shopping. Izmet had a good time eating kebabs! All in all... we had fun. Yey!

Arrival of Muhammad Zarif Izmet Iskandar - 20th August 2003
|
|
After a surprisingly effortless 9 months of pregnancy and an even more surprisingly good labour and delivery, I was wheeled into the labour ward at Damansara Specialist Hospital at 9am on Wednesday 20th August 2003 (the due date itself). My last check-up with the gynae was the day before and it was then that I found out I had already had contractions at home, and had already dialated about 2 to 3 cm.. all this without me realizing. A whole night went by and I didn't feel anything still.
On that Wednesday morning, I got admitted as scheduled, and only after 9am did I start feeling something. Must have been contractions then! By about 9:45am or so, I asked for the epidural (yup...where there's pain relief, i'm all for it...am no superwoman la!). Funny thing the epidural was. It literally left me in such a chirpy and happy mood. Was ticklish, sleepy and very cold, but was giggling pretty much all the way... minus those minutes I actually dozed off. Was 12:15pm when my doctor checked on me. Said it'll be another 3 or 4 hours till fully dialated (at the time, was only 6cm). So.. la-di-da. The soon-to-be grandmas waiting outside decided to relax... my mum even went home first. But then half and hour later, the nurse checked again, and to her surprise, I was FULLY dialated already. So, it was all attention on giving birth to my son. To delivering and receiving this new baby. The doctor was paged in and at 1:15pm, I started pushing. I think it was 3 pushes, and there he was! All screaming away. SO loud, my doctor even said he could put him back in! Hah!
So, at 1:36pm, Muhammad Zarif Izmet Iskandar was born. I became a mummy, and Izmet the ever-proud daddy. His vital stats were 3.44kg, measuring 51cm in length.
Here, some photos of Zarif in his first few hours, and then more in his first couple of months or so. Now, almost 3 years down the line... I want a sibling for Zarif. I think I'm ready.

Our Wedding - 8th August 2002
|
|
After dating for 2 years 8 months and 3 weeks (thereabouts), Izmet and I tied the knot, signed the papers, he did the lafaz, we both sarungkan the cincins. We became Mr and Mrs Izmet Iskandar on Thursday 8th August 2006, at approximately 9pm.
Witnessed by our immediate families, relatives and our dearest of friends, the Akad was held at my parents' in Jalan Ara, Bangsar. Waiting in the bridal suite upstairs, looking out of the windows, i watched the night's cool air surround the cars that were arriving, one by one, till the road was pretty much a 'pasar malam' of cars! Then, to my worry, it started to drizzle. I thought, oh great!! What's gonna happen to the rest of the night with the rain coming along now.. But, as some people say, "hujan tu, ada baiknye..". Something about 'murah rezeki' or something like that. Ye ke? How true is this? Anyhow.... the actual function went well, I'd like to think. Alhamdulillah la. We had the usual 'cakap-cakap, gettin to know the 2 pengantins through the wakils/spokesmen. This was followed by Izmet's lafaz... he managed to do it just once. So, well done, my husband! Haha. There was the exchange of hantarans... the sarung cincins, then a short sanding, followed by dinner. By then, the rain had stopped, so all's good.
Following the Akad, we had the reception on my side on Saturday 10th August at Shangri-La Hotel KL. A simple, straightforward reception, I think it was, except for that earlt panic moment when there were suddenly too many people arriving for the function. But with the quick actions of my family, all those who helped and the hotel staff, we managed to sit all for the function. Had a short mini slideshow of 'the story of izmet & mrika' screened at coffee time. As we knew each other since small, we had photos of us together when we were kids. I guess it's fate, huh? Haha...
The last function was the reception on Izmet's side. This, held at Renaissance Hotel KLon Saturday 17th August. For entertainment, being married to a musical family, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law both sang to us and to the crowd, and a lengthy, yet very personal (she quoted all I told her! ) speech was delivered by my sister-in-law. Another good function to end our 3-nights-of-wedding-celebration.
All the happiness and memories from these functions, of course couldnt have taken place without the generosity, the creativity, the perseverance of my dear parents, parents in law and the rest of the family. To that, a quick note to say thanks to all.
Here, a collection of some photos from the three functions. Dah a bit stale dah the photos now, seeing as am now a much wider person, and very much a mummy already!
